Logitech ups its skins game with the Guitar Hero Wireless Drum Controller

Logitech ups the skins ante with the Guitar Hero Wireless Drum Controller

Have your World Tour drums lost their bounce, or the ability to register each hit of your your sweet, smooth licks? You're not alone our rhythmically majestic friend, and Logi's here to bring your groove back, introducing the pretend drum kit with the no-nonsense name: Wireless Drum Controller. It's a Sony-only affair at the moment, using a dongle to connect to the PS2 or PS3 sans-tether, and some high-quality components to deliver a good feel without the annoying "whack whack whack" cacophony when you're unleashing your inner Animal. Each pad and cymbal is individually adjustable and the whole kit folds completely flat, just like that treadmill you bought last January, tucked under your bed, and promptly forgot about. It costs almost as much, too: $229, or about $60 more than you can get the entire Band Kit for. Nobody ever said rockin' was cheap, baby, and if you have the funds these should be rolling into domestic stores in the next few weeks -- Euro drummers will need to wait a month.

Black Wii packaging looks as good as its contents

By On July 14, 2009 1 Comment

We've already gotten quite a few glimpses of Nintendo's forthcoming black Wii but, with that August 1st launch date in Japan now fast approaching, things are now starting to get even more real. Real like packaging. Of course, while the box is nothing more than a black version of the existing Wii packaging, we have to agree with our pals at Joystiq and say that it only makes the system all that more intriguing. Unfortunately, there's still no word on a release 'round here, but we assume / hope that's only a matter of time considering the reception this thing has received.

Modern Warfare 2 Prestige Edition Unboxed

By On July 14, 2009 No Comments

Infinity Ward community manager Robert Bowling recently uploaded a video of himself on YouTube unboxing the prestige edition of Modern Warfare 2. It comes with night vision goggles. Night vision goggles! Are you freakin’ kidding me? This is so mine on day one. Also in the box is a voucher code for downloading the PSN/XBLA [...]

Modern Warfare 2’s Prestige Edition includes fully functioning night vision goggles

By On July 13, 2009 1 Comment

Now this is how you do a special edition. Activision and Infinity Ward look to be going all out for its Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 "Prestige Edition," with not only the usual accoutrements like a special casing and an art book, but also what is described by Community Manager Robert "fourzerotwo" Bowling as a "fully functioning NVGs -- night vision goggles." No idea how well they work, but it's got alternating modes and MW2 branding. That's pretty awesome, but we gotta imagine it's gonna demand a pretty penny -- this is definitely more than that $80 "collector's edition" for $80 GameStop is currently listing. You won't be able to get your actual hands on the game until November at the earliest, so in the meantime, hit up the read link to get a glimpse of the "official" unboxing.

[Thanks, Joey]

Verizon to its smartphones: thou shalt have no other app store before mine

By On July 13, 2009 No Comments

Verizon's getting very keen on entering the app store industry, but not without some rough decrees to its smartphone partners. According to GigaOm, VP Partner Management Ryan Hughes said in an interview Friday that its VZW-branded shop will house content from all the major platforms under one roof, with purchases being billed through the customer's Verizon account and not requiring a separate signup / credit card entry. Convenient for consumers, and devs are also being promised a more streamlined approval process and a "competitive" revenue-sharing program, but here's where things take a turn for the worse: according to Hughes, non-VZW app stores like BlackBerry App World or Windows Mobile Marketplace won't be bundled with the smartphones out of the box, meaning consumers will have to take the initiative to download those portals for themselves. An incredibly jerk move, and an extra burden on developers who'll be having to submit two approval applications if they want inclusion on Verizon's own store. Of course, that large subscriber base is the reason it can get away with it, but let's hope we hear some better justifications other than "because we can" when the full details are rolled out at the Verizon Developer Community Conference on July 28th.

The PS3 Logitech Harmony Remote Adapter Arrives

By On July 13, 2009 No Comments

The PS3 in my opinion is one of the biggest bargains in the CE industry. In addition to being a fantastic video game console, it also doubles as a fine blu-ray player. In fact, when blu-ray player choices were slim, many people bought the console solely for blu-ray playback.
However, there was one caveat with [...]

HORI’s revamped TwinStick EX: fit for Virtual On addicts only

By On July 13, 2009 No Comments

We'll admit, that cheap-o Virtual On mod we peeked earlier this year was pretty stellar, but those obsessed with the anime-themed title are likely tired of using a hacked up Xbox 360 gamepad in order to advance from stage to stage. If you've found yourself in that increasingly narrow niche, HORI has a fine piece you should feast your eyes upon. The refreshed TwinStick EX was designed specifically for Microsoft's latest console and to be used specially with Virtual On. The result? A ¥30,000 ($325) joystick that you'll probably never quite justify the purchase of to your significant other. Get your pre-orders in early; we get the feeling these are bound to sell out.

[Thanks, Marv]

Probably-fake video of the PS3 slim surfaces

By On July 12, 2009 No Comments

We're pretty much assuming this video of a purportedly "stolen" PS3 slim at a street market in the Philippines is fake, but given the mounting pile of evidence and Sony's other recent leaks, we feel compelled to share it with you. Nothing particularly amazing here -- it's a blurry video of a black plastic box with that new rounded-off logo style from the PSPgo on it -- but if it's real it's certainly interesting. So, what say you -- KIRF, or the real deal?

[Thanks, Khattab]
