LG’s BL40 Black Label phone captured in the wild — alongside a kid sibling
The more we see of LG's latest Black Label handset -- the mysterious BL40 -- the more we want to touch it, play with it, talk on it, and put it (or, at least try to put it) in our pockets. Shots of the bizarre-yet-beautiful phone have appeared over on a German forum where we're told the interface is S-Class-based, the screen is 800 x 345, and the camera is 5 megapixels strong with Schneider Kreuznach optics -- all specs that fall in line with what we've heard so far -- and there's also apparently WiFi, an FM transmitter, and about 335MB of free onboard storage (easily rectified with a huge microSD card, of course). What has us even more intrigued, though, is a single picture in the bunch that shows the BL40 next to a smaller, stouter device with virtually identical industrial design. We have no idea what it is, but it looks like LG might be poised to roll out a whole series of phones in this new Black Label line -- and which ones are Chocolate-branded is anyone's guess at this point.
[Thanks, Anthony]

T-Mobile’s G2 Touch (HTC Hero) hitting Germany in August, not July
It's the same HTC Hero you already crave only now with a touch of colorful Hypo-magenta-semia that always results in a name change. The result? T-Mobile G2 Touch now scheduled for an August launch date, not July as originally announced. We imagine this will push the UK launch back as well what with T-Mobile HQ'd in Germany. Missed launch date or not, we've been ready to take on extra debt, sell the ferrets, whatever it takes just to take home that Sense UI and excellent on-screen keyboard riding Android 1.5 like, yesterday.

Unreleased OQO model 2+ sells for $4,500 on eBay, must be love
We may be gadget nerds but we're not immune to the heart-tugs of romance. In fact, we've been known to dress a new smartphone or two in a tight-fitting sleeve of silicone and setting it conspicuously on the bar for lesser men to admire, wishing it was his. And nothing rouses a man to a fit of sentimental flourish faster than the premature demise of his favorite company. So are we surprised to learn that r***r paid $4,500 to "win" a slightly soiled, but never released OQO Model 2+? Not in the least... you'd be surprised to learn what a man would pay for a Foleo.
[Thanks, Lambdajones]

Acer A1 Android and F1 WinMo Snapdragon smartphones in September?
Ah DigiTimes, what would a morning be without your rumors sourced from within Taiwan's component suppliers? Today's tattle has Acer launching its A1, C1/E1, F1, and L1 smartphones "at the end of September and in the fourth quarter" -- that a four-month spread. Of these, the F1 running WinMo 6.5 (pictured above) on Qualcomm's Snapdragon platform and A1 running Android are undoubtedly the most interesting. It's just rumor but it does corroborate the hushed September whispers already heard.

iPhone OS 3.1 beta 2 released
Unless you have a developer account with Apple, don't bother plugging your iPhone into iTunes -- we promise you're not going to have access to it -- but devs can now get their grubby paws on beta 2 of iPhone OS 3.1. We'll let you know if we see anything crazy, like usable Gmail, true background applications, or a notification UI that doesn't make you want to throw the phone against a very hard surface at high velocity.

BlackBerry Tours, come and get ‘em on Sprint and Verizon

If you've had you eye on the Tour, we bet you didn't forget they were going on sale today -- but just in case you had, consider this your official reminder. Both carriers are now offering RIM's latest and greatest CDMA BlackBerry for $199.99 on contract, so you're probably not going to see a lot of defections between carriers this time around. Pardon us if we don't shed a tear for the lack of exclusivity on this one.

BlackBerry Storm 2 spec’d, 3G-equipped original en route to AT&T?
You haven't forgotten about that BlackBerry Storm 2, have you? The Boy Genius Report is claiming it's gotten device specs for RIM's touchscreen-centric maven, also reportedly called the 9550, and while not surprising (and not confirmed), according to his source the CDMA device will be sporting 802.11b/g (which we already sort of knew), a 3.2 megapixel camera, 360 x 480 capacitive touchscreen, and BlackBerry OS 5.0. If that's not enough, the site's also saying a GSM version of the original, with 3G in tow, does exist as the 9520 and is possibly on track for release soon on AT&T and Rogers. All nice fodder for dreams, but we're not getting our hopes up until something more official rears its SurePress-laden head.

In tomorrow’s nightmarish hellscape, robots shoot craps and Samsung Galaxy is your only friend
Hey, nice Samsung Galaxy you got there! Whoa, whoa, wait... you sure you want to turn that thing on? Are you physically and emotionally prepared for what happens next? See, in a world where space travel knows no boundaries, Facebook has its own planet, and Samsung makes Android-powered phones, cute robots ride (yes, ride) i7500s from heavenly body to heavenly body in search of entertainment and friendship. Follow the break for the whole video, and watch really closely for the part at the end where the Galaxy collides with Earth and accidentally causes an extinction-level event.

BlackBerry Onyx with optical trackball leaks out
Looks like RIM's getting serious about optical trackballs -- first the Curve 8520 ditched the spinner and now it looks like the Onyx has been upgraded as well. That's pretty much just as we've all expected ever since we first laid eyes on this 3G mashup of the Bold and Curve 8900, and we're pretty stoked about it, since we find optical trackballs to be pretty great. Of course, there's no word on a ship date, but we're hoping it'll be soon.
