Guitar Hero 5 drum kit is faux real

By On July 16, 2009 No Comments

Aaand it's out, the first official shot of Guitar Hero 5's redesigned drum kit thus confirming the pic and presumably, the specs we received last week. While no additional details are listed, this rig stands in stark, simplistic contrast to the overbearing GH kit launched by Logitech yesterday and will certainly cost less (much less) than $229. One more shot after the break while we wait for official pricing and specs in the run-up to the September launch.

[Thanks, Juan]

Hybrid2 public bike concept promises to help power city buses

By On July 16, 2009 No Comments

Hybrid bikes are one thing, but designer Chiyi Chen looks to have something far grander in mind for his Hybrid2 bike concept, which he says could one day help power fleets of city buses. To do that, the hybrid part of the bike (a regenerative braking system) wouldn't be used to help power the bike itself at all, but would instead store the energy in an ultracapacitor that'd then feed the energy back into the grid when its parked at a special bike stand, which would in turn be used to help charge the hybrid electric buses. Not one to overlook an ingenious little detail, Chen has also devised a special card RFID card that would not only be used to unlock the bike, but keep track of the energy that each rider generates -- build up enough credits and you can ride the bus for free. Intrigued? Head on past the break for a video overview from the man himself.

EVGA introduces rotatable dual-LCD InterView system

By On July 15, 2009 No Comments

Man, talk about falling into a black hole at the R&D lab. A staggering 1.5 years after we first caught wind of the altogether intriguing InterView system from EVGA, the company is finally bringing it to market here in the US. Put simply, the device features twin rotatable 17-inch LCD displays, both supported by a single desktop stand. It was conceived in order to suit presentation givers, financial consultants and the elusive "creative professional" crowd, with each panel rocking a 1,440 x 900 resolution. The screens can rotate 180 degrees horizontally, fold 90 degrees from closed to full width apart and can even be controlled by two keyboards and mice, ensuring that sibling arguments reach peaks they've never reached before. There's also a built-in webcam, microphone and three-port USB hub, though it seems as if you'll be shopping for this thing without an MSRP to go by. Full release is after the break.

Keepin’ it real fake, part CCXXV: Fashion A10 netbook strikes a pose, Acer-style

By On July 15, 2009 1 Comment

Sadly, plenty of folks just can't seem to shake the notion that "netbooks" and "high fashion" go hand in hand -- and clearly the KIRFmeisters of Shenzhen and environs are no exception. As if that couldn't be any clearer, the kids at Shanzai.com have clued us in on the JingWah Digital Fashion A10, a note-by-note replica of the Aspire One. Aside from the 1.6GHz VIA C7-M CPU, the similarities are striking, including: an 8.9-inch TFT display with a 1024 x 600 resolution, 160GB hard drive, and 1GB of RAM. Sure, it's no powerhouse, but if the price is right it'll make a pretty decent accessory. In fact, throw on your Momenta necklace and slap on a pair of 4GB Calvin Kleins and you'll be able to strut past any velvet rope your encounter (provided the line at the door leads to a LAN party or the BiMonSciFiCon). Theme music after the break.

T-Mobile’s BlackBerry Curve 8520 launching on August 5th at Walmart?

By On July 15, 2009 No Comments

You have to look closely but in the text of the message above circulated around Wal-mart you can clearly make out a date for the launch of the BlackBerry Curve 8520. So August 5th it is, under a two-month exclusive retail arrangement according to our Walmart-employed tipster. That's the same date T-Mobile will be shipping out its myTouch 3G for those keeping track. That jibes with what looks to be an 8520 "Sneak Preview" pre-launch party kicking off on July 20th and scheduled to run for two weeks. See the invite after the break.

Update: Looks like one has already hit eBay. Thanks, Ben!

Samsung goes bargain hunting with SMX-K40 and SMX-K45 camcorders

By On July 14, 2009 No Comments

We've already had a look at Samsung's most interesting camcorder introduction of the day (that'd be the HMX-U10), but those looking for a more conventional alternative may take interest in one of these two. The SMX-K40 and SMX-K45 both take a different approach to capturing clips by logging them at 720 x 480 and offering users "HD upscaling" to the HDTV via HDMI. Both devices also boast a 65x optical zoom for those undercover escapades in voyeurism, while the Optical Image Stabilizer keeps things relatively shake-free. The primary difference between the two is the storage options; the K40 requires that you bring your own SD or SDHC card, while the K45 is equipped with a 32GB SSD. Both units sport 2.7-inch LCDs, USB charging and upload-to-YouTube functionality, and they'll each ship this August for $329.99 and $499.99, respectively. The full release is after the break.

Video: New Palm Pre ad takes serene approach, just goes with the flow

By On July 13, 2009 No Comments

When we last saw this fair-faced Pre spokesperson, she was sitting on a rock in an otherwise open field playing choreagrapher to a sea of robed individuals encircling her. This latest ad takes a decidedly simpler approach reminiscent of the vibe set in the Meet the Pre series, though we can't say for sure her if her followers aren't just waiting off-camera for the next directive. Also, interesting choice of onomatopoeia for sliding through the webOS cards, we imagine there's a certain, Redmond-based company out there delighted by the subtle (and probably unintentional) reference. See the ad for yourself after the break -- and in case you're wondering, that song that'll be stuck in your head all day is "Doot Doot" by Freur.

Neoluxiim demos solar-powered e ink display

By On July 12, 2009 No Comments

We've been sort of wondering when we'd see a solar e-ink display, and here we are -- Neoluxiim is demoing this panel for use in point-of-sale advertising. What's interesting here is that the background appears to be in color while the text is black, but we're assuming that's just a fixed image behind the e-ink layer. Everyone ready for impulse purchasing to go high-tech? Video after the break.

Video: MSI’s skinny X600 laptop gets handled

By On July 10, 2009 No Comments

It's been a little while since we'd heard anything about the super-slim MSI X600 -- part of the X-Slim lineup they've unleashed upon the world. NewGadget's gotten their hands on one, and it's looking pretty sexy, we have to admit. We already know that there will supposedly be two offerings for this 15.6-incher -- one with a 1.4GHz Intel Core 2 Solo processor, 4GB of RAM, and a 500GB hard drive, and the other with a 1.2GHz Intel Celeron processor, 3GB of RAM, and a 320GB hard drive. We still don't have official word on US release or pricing, but the video's after the break.

Video: Life-sized Gundam’s back, looking deadlier than ever

By On July 9, 2009 No Comments

Man, remember that wicked awesome 59 foot tall Gundam they erected in Tokyo? Well, those pictures we saw a month ago were cool, but they're nothing compared to the splendor of the thing lit-up like a futuristic, killer Christmas tree. So hit the read link for some more kick-ass pics of the thing, but not before you peep the video after the break.
