I received two of these replacement batteries for two of the iBook G4 1Ghz processor laptops in the past couple of days. The batteries are specified as a replacement for the OEM product originally installed in the iBook. They appear to be a "replacement" for the Apple iBook model described above. There are a couple of details all consumers should know before purchasing this product.
1) The product page on Amazon.com lists the battery as a Duracell product. This product does not appear to be a Durcell branded product, unless Duracell owns "Hi Capacity" as a subsidiary of Duracell. The Hi Capacity brand is "made in China". No reference to Duracell anywhere in the material or on the battery itself.
2) The product case is suppose to replicate the polycarbonate case of the iBook. The color of case is darker and not truly white, thus does not match the iBook OEM case.
I am currently testing one of the batteries for charging and holding a charge for hopefully the same general time frame of the OEM battery. I will provide an update on the batteries ability to hold a charge.
I purchased this battery model because of the Amazon.com reference to the manufacturer as Duracell. Since receiving the batteries and discovering they are branded as "Hi Capacity" and made in China, a search on the web yields the same battery (Hi Capacity model #B-5903) available from several resellers. Many of the resellers prices are much lower than Amazon.com and are rated very well for consumer experience with the reseller.
I am disappointed that Amazon.com has listed the product as a product from Duracell when it appears that it is a no-name brand. This appears to be a misrepresentation of the product.
My first 'not-so-great' review on Amazon.com.

After a matter of days, the battery will neither hold nor accept a charge. I've returned it to Amazon.
As another reviewer mentioned, the Amazon webpage indicates that this is a Duracell product, with its option to click here "for other Duracell products." Nothing on this battery indicates that Duracell has anything to do with it. It has a couple stick-on labels. One says HiCapacity; the other, Made in China. The disposal warnings printed on the back are in English and German.
As another reviewer also mentioned, it does not match the iBook white.
Apple charges $129 for a replacement battery. I tried to save money and struck out. At least I paid $95 and not the $101 Amazon seems currently to be charging. |
