We kinda bought this figuring it was "snake oil". Well, we were wrong...dead wrong! We plugged this into the Vista laptop, Vista found it and we were using it in less than 1 minute, and to our surprise it picked up our neighbor's router 1000 ft down the road and on the other side of his house! We used to get his signal intermittently on the laptop, but with this plugged in with the hi-gain antenna, we get 4 out of 5 bars! This is through tall, thick trees and a motor home!
When the first reviewer (I read)says it got her father in law's signal 1000 feet or yards down the road, she isn't lying!!!
I just put it on my Windows 7 desktop and it works just the same. I just plugged it in, and windows found it, installed drivers and it's fine.
I ALWAYS suggest going online for the latest drivers for any computer hardware, but this one seems to work fine off of Windows Vista and 7's proprietary drivers. |

The Alfa USB wireless adapter works very well in both Windows and Linux. Using the internal wireless adapter in my Asus 1000HA netbook, I could only detect a few networks in my neighborhood. After attaching this adapter, I was able to detect 15+ networks.
The Alfa adapter works great with Backtrack, as I'm sure you've read from various forums. The card allows for monitor mode, packet injection, etc. If you're looking for a card for wireless pen-testing, then this is the one for you. You will not be disappointed. |
Really does work when nothing else will

I bought this about 5 months ago. I work in a motel, where the office is located below the actual rooms on a hill above and behind (id say 50-60 yards). There is wireless up there for the rooms but not down here. I've tried about 5 different laptops (and 2 adapters in mine), and the best we manage is to see an inconsistent list of the networks up there. Can't connect to any. Most of the problem i think is line of sight or interference, because if i go outside with no obstructions i can get a signal 1 foot from where i tried inside the window. A weak signal even then.
So i bought this, thinking its probably a waste of cash, ill get ripped. Well to my shock, it detected all of the networks up there from inside the office. Not only that, but i can connect to 4 out of 5 of them, and one of them is extremely fast. I only use the short antenna. And if i take this antenna up to the actual rooms, even there i connect 5 times faster.
CONS: i have is the software that comes with it doesn't seem to work in vista, but the antenna works anyway with the windows driver/software. Also, sometimes i have to restart the router when i lose signal while playing certain games like World of Warcraft. Never while browsing though.
I highly recommend this product to anyone who cant quite get a signal. |

As everybody else has stated, this adapter works!!
There was a negative review on this prouduct, by a guy hyping a engenius adapter (which i bought just to try),
but everything bad he stated about it actually applied to the engenius adapter.
This little guy pulls in signals quite well.
If my laptops card reads 10-20% signal, as soon as i plug this adapter in it jumps to 60-70% signal.
As a side note, make sure you disable your internal card before switching,
to make sure you are on the external card before griping about signal strength.;-)
Bottom line... This card rocks! |
Very pleased, great product! :)

| Great range, easy installation with XPsp2. Just use cd, found new hardware wizard and away you go! Haven't even tried the large antenna yet! Hasn't been necessary. |
